Issue

I have another kind of problem with Firefox

Description

Sometimes I want to use a browser other than Firefox 3.5.3. when another program I am running needs to connect to the Internet. But since Firefox 3.5.3 seems to be set as the default browser, I know of no way to use another browser as my default. How do I change the default setting in Firefox 3.5.3 ?

To un-set Firefox as the default browser, you will have to set the browser you want to open as your default browser. Just Google "set (browser name here) as default browser" and follow the instructions you find.

If you want Firefox not to ask you to re-set it as the default, open Firefox and go to Tools > Options and click the Advanced icon. Under System Defaults, un-check the Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup box.

To set another browser as your default: Windows Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs, click "Set Program Access or Defaults" on the left side of the "Add or Remove Programs" window, expand "Custom", make your choice(s), close the "Add or Remove Programs" window, reboot your computer.

No help: Both Firefox and Sea Monkey indicate that they are the default browser.

What's the next thing to try ??

There was an additional response posted earlier that does not show in this
entry: the response was dated in 2004 so does not apply to Firefox 3.5.3 since the browser setting set up was changed when Firefox version 3.5 was released.

In any case, the browser setting for Sea Monkey is that Sea Monkey is set as the default browser.

The problem is that Firefox 3.5.3 also shows it is set as the default browser now.

Are there other suggestions. If yes, please note: both Sea Monkey 1.1.18 AND Firefox 3.5.3 indicate that they are set to be the default browser. How do I fix this and set Sea Monkey 1.1.18 as the SOLE DEFAULT BROWSER ??

Unless they are other suggestions, it seems to me that Firefox has a bug, but perhaps that is premature.

Is there a way to communicate with the Mozilla Firefox programmers and ask if they can tell me how to fix the problem so that Sea Monkey 1.1.18 is the ONLY DEFAULT BROWSER ??

Have you attempted TXGuy's suggestion of changing the Windows settings?

The "Default Browser" is a setting in Windows - only one browser can be the "default" at any time. It is not a browser setting - browsers just allow you make a change in Windows thru the browser.

You can let any browser make itself the default browser or check if it is the default browser. That doesn't mean that all those browsers are the default browser at the same time. You need to check in "Set Program Access or Defaults" to see which browser currently the default browser is.
