Firefox version: 3.5.3 Operating system: Windows XP

It happens OFTEN and at random. The error message is at the top of my screen. I'm using Windows XP. The error message, right behind the Firefox name and logo is "Mozilla Firefox not responding." I installed 3.5.3 specifically because it promised to be Faster. It is NOT faster when it crashes and lags all the time. Please fix it.

Thank you.

I agree man, it locks up every single minute of browsing, and if I have more than one tab open when it locks up, it tends to open my current tab in a new window for NO reason, then continue normally, someone provide more info please..

mozilla firefox "NOT RESPONDING" anyone have a solution out there. this is ridiculous. continous crashing, pasuing...this is not working..any suggestions? how about another version of firefox...this one sucks.

Seems to have happened to me too and it is very annoying. Thinking it was an add-on incompatibility issue I started deleting them one by one, but that did not fix it. Besides, when updating to this 3.5.3 version it checked for compatibility and everything was okay. Looking for a previous version of FireFox.

My opinion is FireFox is becoming less stable every version that comes out now.

I have the same problem as well it happens all the time and is getting worse, then when you open up the browser again it says"well this is embarssing" Just fix the darn thing. It is really annoying

so far I might have the solution for the mozilla "NOT RESPONDING". I have been able to stay online without it crashing. I found this answer here...copy & paste........http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2008/06/27/my-temporary-solution-to-fix-mozilla-firefox-3-random-crashing-problem/

Update: I noticed that an Add-on {972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}:3.0 is causing the crash. The weird thing is I don’t even have any add-on installed!

I went to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\extensions and found a folder {972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd} with a install.rdf file inside. I removed the folder and so far it’s not crashing for me “yet”.

Try it, it seems to work much much better! Cheers!

Thanks Taina/California. Didn't seem to fix my FireFox crashes.
I go way back to the early Netscape browsers and FireFox is getting very unstable. I'd switch to Opera but there are a few add-ons I can't do without, like LastPass, Xmarks, and Blank Canvas.

Beau, which firefox do you have installed. I found that 3.0 works for me. maybe 1-2 times a day crashing. forget the new mozilla. there are issues that firefox has to work out. So I deleted the new and went with the old. Much better, at least for the time being.

Taina/California, I have 3.5.3. I will go with 3.0 like you suggest. I didn't have issues with it. Thanks very much.

I am using Firefox 3.5.4 and having the exact same problems as everyone here has posted. I'm not a programmer and not useful with the insides of my computer. Can you tell me how to uninstall FF3.5.4 and install 3.0?

There has been a problem with the latest NIS 2010 update and they have pulled it! It disables FireFox addons and also causes crashes in both FireFox and IE 8.
Those who have Norton 2010 and got the auto update a few days back all having problems.

About time this was fixed, it has been going on for too long. I'm a long time FF user and fed up with this new version crashing.
I did notice that when I open Photobucket and try to scroll down the screen the whole thing just locks up.

Here's how to uninstall Firefox 3.5 and re-install Firefox 3.0:
(These instructions are written for WinXP, with the Vista variations in parentheses.)

Before you start, take note of the add-ons you have installed and/or back up your bookmarks (Xmarks works well for bookmark backup).

1. Use your internet browser to visit the Download Firefox 3 page and click the Download link for your language and operating system, making sure to save the file, not run it. Note where you save the file.
2. Close your browser and click on the Start menu (Windows button) and click on Control Panel.
3. Click Classic View on the left side of the window (don't worry if it's not there).
4. Double-click Add and Remove Programs (Programs and Features).
5. Find Firefox in the list and click Remove or Change/Remove (in Vista, this button is near the top of the window).
6. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the un-installation.
7. Firefox may or may not require you to restart your computer at this point. Regardless, I would recommend doing so, just to make sure everything finalizes.
8. Locate the file that you downloaded in step 1 and double-click it.
9. Follow the on-screen instructions to install Firefox.
10. If you backed up your bookmarks using Xmarks, install Xmarks again and log in using the same username and password that you used to back them up. Be sure to select Keep data on the server; discard data on this computer when setting up the initial synchronization. This ensures that your bookmarks are restored exactly as you backed them up.
11. Re-install your add-ons, themes, etc.
