This single issue is the largest Firefox performance disaster I've ever seen!

Here's a guy who bought a new PC JUST because of this issue (he thought his PC was the problem.) http://lifehacker.com/5342636/how-to-fix-annoying-youtube-jumpiness-in-firefox

I just spent WEEKS troubleshooting the crap out of this problem, and could not solve it. I was tracing stacks on Firefox.exe threads in Process Explorer, debugging memory dumps in WinDbg, running safe mode, trying processor optimized builds, reverting to FF 3.5.0, reverting to FF 3.0.13, swapping out my Sessionstore.js, etc.

This post by a Mozilla developer sheds some light on the technicalities causing this: http://shawnwilsher.com/archives/294/

Firebug, Google Gears, TabKit, YSlow

Not exactly sure what the answer is on the next page.

Can anyone provide the very, very simple solution? Are we supposed to install a fix and if so how? Or, do we need to change a setting?

Many thanks.

Go to about:config by typing it into your address bar, press enter. Read the notice and click "I'll be careful, I promise!".

Find browser.sessionstore.interval by typing it into the text box that appears next to "Filter" at the top. Double-click what comes up, and change the value to 100000 (one hundred thousand).

Close Firefox afterwards then reopen it.

HALLELUJAH!!! Thanks so much for this! It did the trick!

It would be better to find out what is causing the problem with saving the current session status to the file sessionstore.js in the Profile Folder

Make sure that you do not have security software locking that file.

Is this what is causing FF 3.5.4 to crash and lock up?

noah sumo
I did what you said, but it didn't work.

Could Vista/Win7 be restricting access to this file? (i.e.: does running Firefox with Administrator privileges solve the problem?)

Thank you so much this completely took care of my problem.
