Configuring ZoneAlarm Free Firewall
The ZoneAlarm software package for Windows provides firewall service, which controls the programs that can connect to the outside world and the types of connections that they can make. If ZoneAlarm doesn't permit Firefox to connect to the Internet, Firefox generates a "Unable to connect" error when you try to browse to websites.

Checking for ZoneAlarm Firewall
To see if you're running ZoneAlarm Firewall:
- Open the Windows Control Panel.
- (Windows Vista) Click the Windows icon, and select Control Panel.
- (Windows XP) Open the Windows Start Menu, and select Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel, open the Windows Security Center.
- (Windows Vista) Under the header, click .
- Open the header. Try to locate the following text:
ZoneAlarm reports that it is currently turned on - If it is displayed, you are using ZoneAlarm Firewall.
Configuring ZoneAlarm Firewall
After installing or updating Firefox, ZoneAlarm Firewall prompts you to allow Firefox to access the Internet. On the ZoneAlarm Security Alert pop-up, you should select Remember this setting and click .
You can confirm that ZoneAlarm Firewall is configured to allow Firefox access to the Internet.
- These instructions are for ZoneAlarm 7.1. Other versions may have variations to this process.
- Right-click the ZoneAlarm icon (a black Z or a red and green graph) in the system tray at the bottom right of your screen. Select Restore ZoneAlarm Control Center. The ZoneAlarm dialog appears.
- Click .
- Click .
- Find the row for Firefox. In the row, there should be two checkmarks in the Access column.
- If you see a '?' or an 'X' in the Access column, select it. Then select Allow.
- The entries in the Server column are not relevant.
