Has Firefox been updated to 8.0.1?

more options

I am running Firefox v8.0. I am seeing that there is an update to v8.0.1. When I check for updates I keep getting a response back that Firefox is already up-to-date; no v8.0.1. I am also seeing the availability of downloading v8.0.1 via other than Mozilla. So .... what is the status of Firefox? Thanks.

Only the Mac users will get the idle/manual update from 8.0 to 8.0.1 patch. For Mac users it is to fix a crash issue due to Java Java SE 6 version 1.6.0_29.

Windows users do not benefit from having 8.0.1 unless they use a older version of Roboform and cannot or will not update Roboform to version 7.62 or newer. However if Windows users are getting Firefox crashes upon startup then it may be worthwhile to download Firefox 8.0.1 and install it.

The 8.0.1 is pretty much the 8.0 release for Linux users however if they are using 4.0 to 7.0.1 release and check for updates now then the 8.0.1 will be served (same with Windows and Mac users using older).

It is much easier to just serve 8.0.1 at mozilla.com for all users much like they did with 5.0.1 even though was meant for Mac 10.5 and 10.7 users in mind and pretty much was the 5.0 release for Windows and Linux users then.

Firefox 8.0.1 is still in development we don't have a official version yet but one will be released in the update channels a next days. You should wait for the official update/ release.

Thank you. Firefox 8.0 (Mac OSX 10.7.2) has been trying to contact the update server for hours. Clicking the link and downloading it took just a few seconds.

Having upgraded from 8 to 8.0.1 a few days ago, I find that closing a tab now closes down Firefox. Quite inconvenient. Does anyone else have this problem?

I also agree with a previous contributor who said that there are far too many updates. Many people even scientists regard computers as solely a means to an end, not an end in itself. The less time we spend keeping them functioning, the more time we can spend on our productive work.
