I've been doing some searching recently to find out how to make Firefox keep videos cached (or why it refuses to). I've come across a couple of information fragments, but nothing completely conclusive. From what I can gather, bug 81640 is the culprit; files over 5 Mb are aggressively evicted from the cache. This is completely contrary to the behaviour that I'd want from the browser. I have plenty of space, so I'd be much happier if I could reap the benefits of large files persisting in the cache. One particular reason I'd find this preferable is when I'm loading a large Webm video and something happens to interrupt it, like a crash or closing/navigating away from the page inadvertently. Any of these can evict the video from cache and clear download progress. For the sake of curiosity, I tested Chromium to see what it's behaviour was, and sure enough, videos persist throughout the session. You're able to reload the page, navigate back and forward in history and you won't lose download progress. This turned into a bit of a rant (my apologies), but I was really anticipating the arrival of {video}. I'd hoped it could help alleviate this ongoing irritation, among others, I've had with the way Flash video works. Does anybody know of a way that I could break free of the 5 Mb rule?
