  • If the menu bar is hidden then press F10 or hold down the Alt key, that should make the "Menu Bar" appear
  • Go to "View > Toolbars" and check-mark "Menu Bar" with a click if you want to make that permanent

See Restore the Menu bar in Firefox)

  • Make sure that the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
  • If items are missing then go to "View > Toolbars > Customize" and see if you can find the missing item(s) in the toolbar palette
  • If a missing item is in the toolbar palette then drag it back from the Customize window onto the toolbar
  • If you do not see that item then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up

In my case, Abuchak hijacked the search engine in the main/address bar. Here is what I did to recover google for it. I am using Firefox 4.

Open a new tab and enter “about:config” in the main/address bar, which brings you to the main configuration screen of the browser. There, search (or filter, as they call it) for “abuchak”. You will find entries in various possible places, with text parts including url.search, browser.search, etc. Wherever this appears, replace it with the respective “Google” command, for example http://www.google.com/search, or the equivalent of your desired search tool of choice. It’s easy to do, and after trying for a long time to find any improperly installed programs related to abuchak without success, it seems to be the only place where Abuchak resides. After you have fixed it, you may also want to consider the Firefox extension “Browserprotect”, which disables future hijacking of the browser search engine.

This issue can be caused by an extension called ConnectBar

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

You can open the about:config page via the location bar and do a search for abuchak via the Filter at the top of the about:config page.
You can reset all abuchak related prefs that appear bold (user set) via the right-click context menu to their default values.
