Homepage/Keyword.URL hijacked by eSnips, how do I rescue?

I switched to Firefox 4 Beta 7 from Firefox 3.6, which functioned normally. I've tried some F4 betas before, and I think this eSnips hijack may be a carry-over.

My homepage goes to this address, and my keyword.URL has been switched to their search. The default search engine was switched to Yahoo!, but I got rid of that by deleting all the search plugins I don't need.

The homepage and keyword.URL gets reset every time I start the browser - the prefs.js file isn't read-only, and adding entries to user.js didn't work. Blocking cookies from esnips and deleting existing cookies didn't work.

I tried creating a new profile, which worked and was free of eSnips. I added data one-by-one from the previous profile EXCEPT prefs.js, and the eSnips problem reappeared on the profile, so trying to isolate which extension/file is doing that may be helpful.

One thing I'm not a fan of doing is setting up my Firefox all over again, so a fix would be appreciated.

tl;dr Prefs.js is not read only User.js doesn't work New profile works

I fixed it successfully.

Install ASK tool bar. Once you installed, the home page will be changed to ASK search page. Now uninstall ASK tool bar from the system. Finally change the home page of mozilla to the default.

Note: Uninstall esnips & clear the registry entries of ensips before installing ASK.

Follow me and you will solve the problem.

First go about:config and search for "esnips" then reset all the key. Close Firefox.

Download Total Commander (or any file/folder manager that support search for text).

Using TC search, where to search is your Profile folder (if you don't know where is your firefox profile folder, google). And choose search for text, type "esnips" in the box. Then search for it.

TC will display a list of files that content the "esnips". You will see many pref.js files, that it, esnips inserted malicious code to many extensions's pref.js. Open every single file, search for "esnips" in it and delete the lines. To be safe, open every result display in the TC serach box, not only those pref.js (session_restore.js... ), for .json bookmark files, it's ok to skip.

OK. Firefox is clean now.
