The status bar has been replaced by the add-on bar in beta 7.

You can display it either by clicking on the Firefox button, selecting Options then select Add-on bar, or if you have the old style menus, select View, then Toolbars then Add-on bar. You can also right-click on a toolbar to get the option to display the Add-on bar.

Same here. Add-on Bar is a subset of old status bar now showing only Add-ons not status of loading page or link info

The Status-4-Evar add-on can be used to add "Status Text", "Progress Meter", and "Download Status" to the add-on bar.

Link info now appears in the Location bar, and the loading progress indicator is a circular image on the left side of each tab, when the Favicon for the website appears the page is fully loaded.

I have gotten used to most of the changes

Page loading is now easily seen and per tab, links are shown in the address bar, the arrow near the back button is a right click...all good.

The one thing I can't figure out is where to see the progress of downloading a file without needing to have download manager open.

JustJosh, seems it depends on theme.

I tried a few themes and perhaps mx3 shows a thick green line as a download progress at locationbar. But default theme also shows, and that is only thin.

btw. I'm getting to be in friendship with add-on-bar and status-4-evar extension, perhaps i can put again my chatzilla icon back to the statusbar in a same way as was in Netscape7 :)

The bar does NOT become visible automatically when an add-on uses it, and when it is visible, it's functionality is removed.

Work on the new Download Manager has not been finished yet and that most likely means that there will be no solution in Firefox 4.0 for the progression of downloads that previously were shown on the Status bar. That will hopefully be ready for Firefox 4.1
