"Check for Update" does NOT find 3.6.9
I am running Firefox 3.6.8 at home on two computers (Win7 Home Premium) 64-bit on one, WinXP Home on the other). When I run a manual "check for update" on each computer, they both say that no updates are available. The time (GMT) is September 11, 3:00 am
Chosen solution
The option to auto-update to Firefox 3.6.9 and 3.5.12 has been turned off while Mozilla investigate a startup crash.
Bug 595242 – Please turn off the 3.5.12 and 3.6.9 updates while investigating bug 594699

Try downloading 3.6.9 from http://www.mozilla.com/ and installing it on top of 3.6.8
If I install on top of 3.6.8, what happens to my: (a) changes under about:config (b) bookmarks (c) add-ons (d) changes made via Tools Menu?
Nothing happens with your personal data that is stored in a separate location.
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
You should however always have a backup of your personal data.
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup and Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles
