Updates reported when running newest version

Firefox can falsely report that an update is available when none exists. If you are experiencing this issue and do not want to update to the newest version of Firefox at this time, one of these methods may address the issue:

Method 1: Download the Firefox setup file

You can download the Firefox setup file at http://www.mozilla.com and install it on top of your current Firefox installation. You will not lose any settings, bookmarks, passwords, add-ons, or any other configurations if you install on top of Firefox.

Method 2: Delete local configuration files

Delete the following files:

  • active-update.xml
  • updates.xml
  • updates folder

The above files and folders must be deleted from both of the following locations:

  • The folder where you installed Firefox (e.g. C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox).
  • The folder where local application data and settings are stored for Firefox. This location depends on your operating system. In Windows XP, the location may be: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox where <username> corresponds to the username that you used to login to your computer.

After the files are deleted, restart Firefox. The configuration files will be rebuilt in the proper locations.
