Translating articles

Before you translate:

  • Make sure you have registered an account on the Firefox Support web site. If you haven't, please register.
  • In your account preferences, set
    • Group: as Contributor.
    • Language: to your preferred language

  1. Go to the article you would like to translate. For a list of article ranked by popularity, click here.
  2. If the article has not been translated into your language, there should be a message above the article title, stating that the article has not been translated to your language, and provide a "translate this page" link, for you to create a translation of the article. Click on the "translate this page" link.


  3. You will then be asked to provide a title for the translated article. Enter the translated title, and click Create translation.

    • NOTE: Out of the entire knowledge base, among all languages, no 2 articles can have the same name.
    • The title your article should be a translation of the title of the article you want to translate. Do not use generic titles, like "Firefox".
  4. You can now start translating the article.
    • Remember to check mark the appropriate boxes in the top right.
      • - This is a help article -: The article is a tutorial or reference chart. Look at the bottom of the article you are translating, to see if this is check marked on the original article.
      • - This is a support/troubleshooting article -: The article is meant to help solve a problem the user is having. Look at the bottom of the article you are translating, to see if this is check marked on the original article.
      • Firefox 2: The article applies to Firefox 2 users.
      • Firefox 3: The article applies to Firefox 3 users.
      • Linked from in-product: The article is used as a help-topic, when a user uses the help buttons inside Firefox. If you are unsure if this should be check marked, do not check mark it.
    • If there are screenshots, you can replace them with your own screenshots; but do not give your screenshots the same name as the English screenshots.
  5. When you've completed the translation, click on Complete tanslation.


    • The Partial Translation button will also save your edit. It is the equivalent of using the Minor edit function, when editing articles.
  6. Your article will not be public until someone with approver permissions can approve your article, thus making it public. For more information, see Approving articles and edits.
