Mozilla is not planning any further security and stability updates for Firefox 2, and recommends that you upgrade to Firefox 3 as soon as possible. It's free, and your settings and bookmarks will be preserved.
Also, the Phishing Protection service will no longer be available for Firefox 2 users. Firefox 3 offers a free Phishing and Malware Protection service, which will continue to protect you from online scams and attacks.
Importing bookmarks and other data from Internet Explorer
Firefox lets you import settings and data from Internet Explorer. This can be handy when you start using Firefox because it saves you from having to configure many things yourself.
The first time you run Firefox, it will automatically ask you if you want to import data. If you chose not to or if you wish to do it again, you can start the process again.
Watch a video of these instructions
- At the top of the Firefox window, click the File menu, and select Import....

- Firefox can import settings and information from many other browsers. It will list browsers on your system that it can import from. Select Microsoft Internet Explorer, then click Next.

- Firefox will list the types of settings and information it can import. Generally, you will want to import everything. Select the items you want to import, then click Next.

- Internet Options: Various settings, including your home page. Since Firefox and Internet Explorer have different features, Firefox won't be able to import all of your settings.
- Cookies: Small files stored on your computer by some websites that are used to keep you logged in, store your options, or do other things.
- Browsing History: Information on the sites you have visited.
- Saved Form History: Text you entered in text fields on websites.
- Saved Passwords: Usernames and passwords for websites you told Internet Explorer to remember. Note that you cannot import passwords from Internet Explorer 7 or higher as passwords in Internet Explorer 7 are saved in a new format that is nearly impossible for external programs to extract data from.
- Favorites: Web pages you have saved in your Internet Explorer favorites.
- Click Finish. The items you selected should now be imported.
