This article describes how to clear single items or all items from the Location bar history.

Clearing a single item from the Location bar history

  1. To clear a single item in the Location bar history, click the drop-down arrow in the Location bar.



  2. Press the Down arrow key, or move the mouse, to highlight the entry to delete.



  3. To clear the highlighted item, hold down the Shift key and press Delete.

The item is deleted.

Clearing all items in the Location bar history

Note: If you see items with a star, those are Bookmarks and not part of your browsing history. This is part of the Firefox Smart Location Bar feature. If you don't want bookmarks to appear in the Location bar, see Hiding bookmarks in the Smart Location Bar.

  1. To clear all Location bar history, press Ctrl+Shift+Del, or click the Tools menu, and select Clear Private Data....



  2. In the Clear Private Data window, select Browsing History.
    • Note: Be sure to de-select any other private data that you do not want to be cleared.



  3. To clear all items in the Location bar history, press Clear Private Data Now.

The Location bar history is cleared.

Troubleshooting

I still see items with a star in the Location bar

This happens because the Smart Location Bar feature in Firefox 3 includes bookmarks as well as places you have visited. To turn off display of pages you have not visited in the Smart Location Bar, install the Hide Unvisited add-on.
