There are many people, including myself, having this same problem. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a response from developers. I have gone through every possible solution suggested but the problem remains. Uninstalled firefox, changed router setting, disabled all add ons, changed about:config settings...still no go. The only thing that works is downgrading.

This also is happening to my default home page. Firefox says "cannot find server". But when I select "try again" it works.

I am having this problem using 6 computers with new profiles on two of them.
I am so sick of this I am now using Opera as my default browser.

I have the same problem and am getting really tired of it. When it says "Looking up...." you know it won't find the URL but you still have to wait, then tell it to try again.

This has been a fairly recent development; not sure when it started happening.

This even happens with my home tabs.

I'm realizing FF just isn't worth it.

Frustrating as hell, I've had this problem since updating to FF 3.5

The issue never happened on the previous versions.

Just upgraded to FF 3.6 and now it's even worse.

FF doesn't seem to have a handle on this issue.

Time to try a different browser.
