Issue

I have another kind of problem with Firefox

Description

Hy. I'm beginning to be frustrated with this firefox error. I read that firefox is not completely compatible with x64 systems. I use 32 bit version of firefox but it really causes big trouble to windows explorer. I made a research and none of the software I'm using right now casuses an error. I used Safari 4 a long time, with none errors. Every time i exit firefox and right click windows explorer crashes. I love firefox but because of this bug i need to uninstall it. Please fix this because there are a lot of users surely with this issue. It's frustrating. I'm sure it's firefox fault because with no firefox everything is fine. Please fix it.

firefox is closed and I make a right click in windows, sometimes without doing anything

I'm also having the same problems, but using a 32-bit version, although I have a 64-bit processor. When I tried the Firefox 3.6 Beta 3, the client wouldn't even open without crashing. With 3.5, when I tried to type anything in to the address bar, it would crash. And as in "it", I mean Windows. I've have blue screens with errors like "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL", or "MEMORY MANAGEMENT", all relating to my memory. I thought it was a Windows 7 problem, but I tried taking them all out one by one (I have two 1GB sticks and 1 2GB), and still the same problem. I just switched from XP Pro, and they were working correctly, I seriously doubt 3 different sticks of RAM can go bad all at the same time.

While running Safari, I have not had these problems. Most recently, Windows crashes when I try to download ANYTHING from Firefox, same blue screen errors. Doesn't happen in Safari (and screw IE, I wouldn't use that browser if they were the last one publicly available!), and this is on a fresh uninstall/reboot/install.

Thanks.

i have a 64 bit Windows 7 and using a 32 firefox and there is no errors of the above ....

Hy again. I forgot to say the same thing happened to me when I was using windows vista business x64. I think that firefox has some issues with 64 bit systems. I don't know why but even in vista it happened, but not so often as in 7, that's interesting. People were talking about Kaspersky incompatibility before, like he causes all of trouble. But I don't think so, I'm using a windows 7 compatible Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 9.0.0.736. Also there were rumors that Eraser causes this error. I'm using all mentioned software now without errors. After installing firefox 32 bit everything runs fine. BUT... After some time, after I exit firefox explorer crashes. Or sometimes not. For some time. But after exiting firefox, if I don't use right mouse click everything is fine. Immediately after doint right click, there's an error.

Something in firefox causes that crash because when I look at error log it says ntdll.dll is a fault module. Or even stackhash error is cause. And that's happening only when i'm using firefox.

I tried firefox 64 bit, Shiretoko and Minefield. They work fine, but as you know, there is no purpose using them because there is no flash 64 bit available for them.

If someone know how to fix this ntdll.dll error and stack hash error when using firefox, I would appreciate any help, because firefox is good and fast browser and i love to use it on 32 bit system because of no error, but on x64 system I really need to use safari 4 until fix of this error.

yes i am fighting with same error

windows 7 x64 and firefox 3.5.5

Same problems. All internet browsers crash almost all the time whenever flash is used.

windows 7 x64 and firefox 3.5.5 too

Error source is flash???

@ Adam E.

This is very strange problem which I never had. Seems like firefox in your case has problems with memory allocations. Strange. Everybody know how firefox uses a lot of ram if it's available, sometimes about 200 MBytes and even much more with a lots of tabs opened. Your problem might be that cause you have 1 stick of 1 GB probably in first memory socket (I'm assuming that) and 2 GB stick in second socket. In that case system is using probably all of resource of first stick (1 GB) and then it need to pass by to bigger stick of 2 GB. Maybe in that case it causes some sort of error because of jumping into virtual memory and backwards to memory stick to write data. Maybe this wouldn't happen if you could put stick of 2 GB in first memory socket, 1 GB stick in second available or in, of course dual channel case, next socket needed for dual channel (in my case third memory socket). If it's already as mentioned, disregard this.

I just want to say IRQ NOT LESS OR EQUALL errors are happening most because of driver or bios errors so it could be any software or firmware or bios problem. It's hard to know. Firefox is problem in your case, so maybe next update will fix that issue.

Interesting also... In safari 4 it's running process it very stable. Maybe 3 or 4 times it crashed in my case but i really had tabs and tabs opened then and downloaded 24 files at once :D in normal to extra case safari.exe process usage on my machine came up to even 800 MB in usage with no crashing. In above case when it crashed I forgot to check the usage :)

Sometimes without even using firefox at all (closed and working in windows) my explorer crashed. Just because firefox was installed. Shell extension error, people say on many web forum sites. Probably. And again, firefox is cause. Strange. Even not executed it causes error just because of right click which recalls somewhat something connected with firefox shell extension probably. Totally mess!

@ Max H. & Cem

My problem is happening only when I'm using firefox, in ie 32 bit and 64 bit and safari 4 none of the errors, only in firefox. And I think it's not connected with flash. I don't know but I think it isn't.

Suffering from this issue. Looks like i need to uninstall firefox

same

i waiting for x64 firefox. now i dont use firefox . when 64 bit firefox come, i will continue to use firefox

Probably same in my case. Some may think I hate firefox, it's not true. I love it, it's fast and good. But we need to wait x64 version.
For now I enjoy using Safari 4, it's fast, reliable, nice looking. Firefox looks a bit old to me now because of habit of using Safari :) I love Safari style but some things on Safari 4 on Windows still do not work like windows media player plugin for it (it says wmp firefox plugin will work, for me it didn't work). On facebook chat everytime when someone sends a chat message pop up message appears saying Safari can't find plugin even if chat works. But after longer time message dissapears. Interesting thing. Safari is good browser but sometimes I miss good old fast firefox. Hope to see soon x64 version.

firefox is not only a web browser :)

firefox is a ftp client
firefox is a download manager
firefox is a file manager
firefox is a web developer kit
firefox is a .............................................

everything is on the firefox. i dont understand why didn't come x64.
and firefox 3.5.6 terrible suck.

firefo x64 too late.

I have been getting these ntdll and stackhash errors too and explorer.exe would crash when closing its window, sometimes when browsing a folder but always unpredictable, no way to reproduce it and it would work for hours with no problem and then 2-3 errors one after another. I use Firefox as my primary browser so it is hard to uninstall it after all the customizations I've made.

This is on a 3 week old computer running Firefox 3.5.7 (just updated today from 3.5.6) and Win 7 Pro x64.

All hardware have been triple checked and all shell extensions (context menu handlers) are disabled.

Hy again. Two days ago I installed firefox again on win 7 ultimate x64 to see if there has been error fix. Of course, 1 hour everything was ok, but then after closing firefox, crash after crash. Just as you say, even unpredictable, when doing in explorer window normally. From the first day of using vista x64 and 7 x64 I had this firefox problem. Always stackhash and ntdll error related to explorer.exe. Anoying. Really. Problem isn't fixed and there's no other way then wait working x64 version of firefox (and adobe flash x64). I suggest using Google Chrome as it is more reliable than any other today. Faster then firefox, safari and internet explorer, even faster than opera in my opinion. Stable process running tabs in separate process gives more stability. I don't know for you guys but I'm staying on Google Chrome for some time.
Who knows when we will finally could use firefox without ntdll and stackhash error.

Cheers, Artcore

With Mindefield 3.7a explorer no longer crashes in Windows 7 64 Bit.

Mindefield 3.7 x64 explorer is the mozilla's new internet browser??????

Yes, the mozilla's new internet browser. You have to uninstall firefox, restart windows 7 und go with minefield (no x64 version available though, just use only latest build).

I just installed Minefield 3.7a1pre. Options were set like this: privacy - use custom settings for history, permanent private browsing mode is on. Strange because I had almost 5 times already set this option to never remember history. It reverts back every time. Now I will test if this privacy option causes an error or what. I would be happy to install x64 version of minefield, I'm waiting forward to it. For now I had no errors.
But chrome gave me more speed than any browser, I have 4 Mbit ADSL speed and with chrome my downloads often were even 3 MB/sec. Very interesting. With firefox they started at 2 MBit (206 kB/sec). If Chrome is so fast in surfing, downloads, internet speed tests, I wish Minefield will bring all that to us.

I will test some time and then post a reply here.

Hy again. Just wanted to say that Minefield 3.7a1pre version works without errors. Fast & great browser, only thing I don't like - no support for many addons, because of prerelease. So in my case it's useless to use this browser when many od addons and extensions won't work. I will wait final version of minefield, 32 bit works great, but I will wait especially x64 version of minefield and adobe flash.

Till then, Google Chrome is my default browser.

So for all those who have this problem with explorer.exe, yes, it's truth that privacy options in older firefox (3.5.6 and 3.5.7 and some older) are causing an ntdll and stackhash explorer.exe errors. Solution is easy, disable this privacy option in firefox 3.5.6, 3.5.7 or other version or use minefield 3.7a1pre prerelase version (if addons and extensions aren't important to you, because they don't work in this beta).

The problem with Explorer crashing related to Private Browsing is Bug 518412 - clipboard data added in Private Browsing Mode causes Windows Explorer to crash when accessing menus which include Paste after closing firefox

This issue has been fixed for Firefox 3.6 (since Beta 5), and will also be fixed in Firefox 3.5.8.
