Futurist Stencil font not displaying
Autor
Nachricht

I've just booted Firefox and received the latest update - which has spoiled my website.

My site is http://www.bloodforthebaron.com, it is a fansite for the UK range of GI Joe toys.

I use two specific fonts for my archives and navigation (the same fonts used in the promotional packaging).

I provide a download to the fonts for my site visitors here: http://www.bloodforthebaron.com/links/fonts.html

The font marked "Palitoy" is Futurist Stencil.

The font marked "Hasbro" is Action Force Normal

Please grab and install them both so that you can see the problem.

For reference the two download icons are examples of the relevant fonts.

Here is a page that should display using Futurist Stencil font:
http://www.bloodforthebaron.com/toys/002/redshadows/006/index.html

Here is a page that should display using Action Force Normal font:
http://www.bloodforthebaron.com/toys/004/cobra/030/index.html

Since the last Firefox update, Futurist Stencial has stopped displaying, but Action Force Normal still functions.

The font has been stable for over a year and is still behaving properly with IE.

Please could you investigate?

I have abandoned this forum and instead spent a couple of hours using the LiveChat service.

Much respect to zzxc

Change the font name to: font face="Action Force" or supply a font with the "Action Force Normal" name.

This issue should be discussed on the Firefox Support forum and not on the Contributors forum, so moving over to https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/forum/1/485872

You mean, rewrite thousands of pages of code that worked perfectly until yesterday's update and still function properly with IE? That is simply not an option.

There must be something you can do as it has been stable for months.

Apologies for using the wrong section, I am a noob here. I have also posted a duplicate thread here: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/forum/1/486151?

Please can that one be locked or deleted?

Besides, you seem to have misunderstood the problem. The "Action Force Normal" font is behaving perfectly. It's "Futurist Stencil" which is failing to display.

What do you mean when you suggest I 'supply a font with the "Action Force Normal" name.' I provided a link to the font downloads.

Please clarify.

Further information provided.

That original screenshot isn't very helpful. Here is a page as it currently displays using Firefox.

and here it is using IE. This is how it should look, and how it did look using Firefox until the latest update.

Seriously, this is a major glitch in the new Firefox. The onus is not on me to adapt accordingly, I am notifying you as a courtesy.

I have always been a huge fan of Firefox, I built my site with it in mind and have had an endorsement link to you as part of my credits page since day one: http://www.bloodforthebaron.com/thanks/index.html

If you do not do something about it, I will have no choice but to advise my visitors and members not to use your browser.

I'm not having any problems with the 'Futurist Stencil' font on that page [*] in Firefox.
So if that font isn't working then you need to check that out on your computer.

Do you see that font listed in Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors ?

Curious! But that gives me hope. It's not displaying in the Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors list.

But surely for the font to display using IE I must have it installed correctly. The first thing I did yesterday was reinstall it.

Please could you give me a screenshot of the font in action using your Firefox? Are you using the updated version?

Here is a screenshot.
Btw, I'm on Linux, but that shouldn't make any difference.

OK, now I'm baffled. Do you know of any reason why the font would be fully installed, to the point where I can access it in Photoshop and displays using IE, yet would not appear in my Firefox Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors?

I'll try a reinstall of Firefox and ask if my forum members are experiencing similar problems.

No, I'm not aware of a cause of such an issue.

You can create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile

There may be extensions installed by default in a new profile, so check that in Tools > Add-ons > Extensions.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files).

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox

OK, it's confirmed.

I completely uninstalled Firefox and manually deleted the Mozilla folders from C:\Users\Moderator\AppData\Local and C:\Users\Moderator\AppData\Roaming

I did a clean install of the new Firefox 3.5.4 and went directly to my homepage.

Here is a screenshot: http://www.bloodforthebaron.com/pix/3.5.4.jpg

I then uninstalled 3.5.4 and again manually deleted the core folders.

I then did a clean install of the Firefox 3.5.2 and went directly to my homepage.

Here is a screenshot: http://www.bloodforthebaron.com/pix/3.5.2.jpg

As you can see, the Futurist Stencil font displays in 3.5.2, but not 3.5.4.

At no point did I reinstall the font itself. There is a glitch in the new Firefox release.

I know it's just a silly little thing, but it is integral to my site.

(Apologies for the duplicate post - I hadn't realised I'd lost my auto log-in)

I've just been informed by one of my forum members that the Futurist Stencil font displays fine in Firefox 3.5.4 when using a Mac.

For reference he says the same error occurred using Windows XP, I'm running it on Vista.

So, what happens now?

I understand that this is an extremely busy forum, but could somebody please acknowledge my complaint?

Pretty please?

Yes? No?

Seriously, is anybody doing anything about this?

Still waiting.
