Contributing to the Knowledge Base
The Knowledge Base is the backbone of the site; and everyone is encouraged to search the Knowledge Base before asking a question in the forum or Live Chat.
There are a number of different ways to contribute to the Knowledge Base, even if you are not a Firefox expert! If you've contributed to other wiki's it's important to read How we are different.
What to help?
- Join us in the Contributors forum: There is always plenty of discussion in the Contributors forum about different ways to improve the knowledge base. You will always find something you can do! Take me to the Contributors forum.
- The easiest starting point is the "Useful article comments" threads. Users leave feedback on each article, and every week we go through the comments we think are useful and post them in the Contributors forum. There is always something to tackle in those threads.
Getting started
Are you on Windows 7?
We want to change all the screen images and video to show Firefox on Windows 7.
- Screenshots! Something as simple as creating screenshots and adding them to articles can really help understandability. In addition, we want to update Windows screenshots for Windows 7, as we need to make the website more user-friendly for users coming from the EU browser ballot. We have instructions here.
- Screencasts! Just find an article with step-by-step instructions, and create a screencast showing those instructions being executed. We have instructions on adding screencasts here.
Are you on Linux?
- Improving Linux documentation. Sometimes the Linux documentation gets a low priority, but if we had someone to go through KB articles, to make sure the Linux info is up to date, it would really help.
Are you testing Firefox 3.6?
- Firefox 3.6! We are beginning to update KB content for Firefox 3.6. The plan is up on the Mozilla wiki. There is a link to a list of articles that need to be updated. You can help updating those articles.
